Russia Rescue Systems

RUSSIAN Federation

The RFN has been actively participating in cooperation with other members of the Submarine Escape and Rescue Working Group.   It is known that rescue vehicle that can mate to the "NATO common rescue seat" can mate with an RFN DISSUB although the seats are narrow and of small diameter, extreme care is required when mating.

SUBMARINE RESCUE VESSELS (ASR)

The Russian Federal Navy (RFN) operates a number of ASR.

ELBRUS CLASS
A single vessel of this class of very large large (22,500T) ASR remains in the Pacific Fleet.  It is probably the only ASR capable of operating in ice and therefore effecting a rescue from under ice.  2 SRV are carried.
MIKHAIL RUDNITSKY CLASS
4 vessels of this large (10,700T) are in service.  2 in the Northern Fleet and 2 in the Pacific Fleet.  Each can operate a single SRV.

KASHTAN CLASS
An uncertain number of this class of 8 are allocated to ASR duties.  However all have sufficient lifting capability to handle any SRV.  One example manned by the navy  in the Baltic deploys the SRV AS 22.

SUBMARINE RESCUE VEHICLES (SRV)

The RFN operates a number of different classes of small submersibles, a number of which must be tasked with rescue.
